Trend Spotlight: The Rise of Air Freight from Riga

In recent years, we have seen a significant increase in air freight. This is largely due to the network expansion of AirBaltic, which has established Riga as its main cargo hub. This strategic position allows for incredibly fast and efficient connections.

How to Choose: A Guide Based on Shipment Weight

While urgency and cargo type are key, shipment weight is often the best starting point for finding the most cost-effective solution.

Under 10 kg

Courier services are typically the fastest and most cost-effective. Ideal for documents and small parcels.

Examples: Omniva/Venipak (Local), DHL, UPS, FedEx (International).

10 kg to 100 kg

Air freight is often the fastest and most effective method for both import and export. It offers a great balance of speed and price for medium-sized shipments.

100 kg to 2,000 kg (2 Tons)

LCL (Less than Container Load) sea freight becomes highly effective. You pay only for the space you use in a shared container.

Over 2 Tons

FCL (Full Container Load) is generally the best choice. This is used for shipments up to several hundred metric tons.

Very Large & Heavy

For exceptionally heavy or large shipments, bulk vessels or rail transport are the primary solutions.

A Note on Urgency

This is a general guide. Urgency can change everything. A 500 kg shipment might be urgent and best for air freight, not LCL. Always consult with a logistics expert.
